Corn Bhaat

This has been a favourite since childhood. Any day that I was upset, mom used to make this to cheer me up.

You shall need:

1 Sliced onion {medium}
half a capsicum cut in small pieces
1tbsp ghee
salt
red chilli powder
1 tsp haldi powder{turmeric}
1tsp Sugar
cumin seeds
chopped corriander
a fistfull american corn seeds
1 cup rice {soak in 2 cups water}

Method:

  • heat ghee in a cooker. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  • add the onions and the sugar. {the sugar helps the onion turn nice brown}. when the edges of the onion in brown, add the corn and the salt, chilli pwdr and turmeric powder. Mix well.
  • Add the pre-soaked rice {dont throw the water, add that to the cooker}
  • Put on the lid and let it take 2 whistles.
  • After the steam has settled open the lid add the capsicum and corriander and put the lid on for 5 min.
    the rice is ready to be served
