What do people really know about Karwa Chauth apart from being  the pompous fasting followed by feasting? Bollywood has only added more ghee to the fire.

It is more culturally bound than one can imagine. Women from UP, Punjab, MP, J & k, Himachal and a few parts of Gujarat keep this fast for the long life of the husband. It is a nirjala fast [No water] and must be kept every year on the 4th day of the poornima in the Kartik month. This year it falls on 22nd Oct, 2013, which is tomorrow. Yay.

Easy Paneer Tikka

After a long time and lots of intermissions on the blog, I whipped up this easy peezy Paneer tikka last night for a quick paneer tikka masala 🙂

You shall need: [Serves 2-3]

250 gms… Paneer [Cut in logs]

4 tbsp… Thick curd

1 tbsp… Kasoori methi

Salt

A pinch of orange color

1 tbsp… Fresh Malai/ cream

1 tbsp… Roopak Kadhai Paneer masala or a mix dhaniya powder, cumin powder, kashmiri laal mirch powder, dry ginger powder and some amchoor to get this beautiful masala.

Oil

Method:

  • Mix the masalas in the3 curd and tumble the paneer in it.
  • Marinate it for atleast 2 hours in the fridge.
  • On a shallow non stick pan, heat few drops of oil and place the paneer along with loads of marinade one by one.
  • Let it sizzle properly on one side and then flip the side with the help of tongs.
  • Make sure you cook all 4 sides properly. Char marks make it taste only better 🙂
  • Bring it off the pan and ready to be served.

Bake Fest #24 – Event Announcement

I am very pleased to announce that I shall be hosting Bake Fest #24 for this month. Vardhini has maintained Bake Fest for almost 2 years now and is going a great job at it. Kudos.

The event runs from Oct 1st – Oct 31st.

1. Send in any recipe which has been baked / broiled.

2. Only vegetarian or vegan recipes please. I normally accept eggs in baking and hence eggs are allowed.

3. Usage of the logo is appreciated as it helps spread the word.
